COMING UP - 3RD FEBRUARY

Our next session will feature: Alan Bateman (trumpet), Terry Roberts (reeds), Rod Kelly (piano), Nick Millward (drums), Phil Probert (guitar) and Len Thwaites (bass).

Regulars will remember with great pleasure the amazing session we had with a similar line-up in the Autumn, shortly after Alan was invited to play with Terry Lightfoot. Alan's brother Ian came after playing Worcester, Huntington Hall with Acker Bilk and Nick was just back from touring with Kenny Ball. If only we'd been able to record that evening, we'd have sold a million!

So for the chance of another great night with these outstanding musicians, make sure you get there early!

Opening Night 2008

What a great first night for the new jazz year. We had Richard Leach (trombone), Roger Manwaring (reeds), Ken Jones (piano), Graham Smith (drums), Phil Probert (guitar) and of course Len Thwaites on bass. The music was a generous mix of the traditional and the swing repertoire and (if we do say so ourselves) the audience loved it.

We had special features from Richard, Roger, Ken and Phil during the evening and the quality of the session showed again why musicians are prepared to travel to Malvern from far afield to be backed by this rhythm section.

Yet again, Len promised to sing but didn't. Various other people did though, and one of these nights we're all just going to walk off the stand and leave Len to remember the words!

The musicians had a great time and we all very much appreciate the welcome we get from the Malvern audience. They are open to new sounds, encourage us to experiment and make the whole exercise worth while and enjoyable.
